Answers to Questions
Question1:
Does al-ain, i.e. the “evil eye” have any influence on man? How do we deal with Ahadith stipulating that “The evil eye is real, and if anything were to overtake al-Qadar (divine decree) it would be the evil eye?” Ibnul Qayyim wrote in Bada'i` al-Fawa'id that the evil exists and has an effect, on the basis of the verse (...and from the evil of the envier when he envies.” …)
Answer 1:
It has been established that the Messenger of Allah (saw) said in the Sahih Hadith narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim: “The evil eye is a fact.” This means that the evil eye has an influence. Many scholars relied on this Hadith to adopt the opinion on the influence of the evil eye. However, this issue cannot be perceived by al-Aql (reason), thus al-Aql cannot act as evidence for it. As for the Hadith, it is doubtful and it does not constitute a sound evidence for the issues that al-Aql cannot perceive. Hence, this Hadith alone cannot be a sound evidence for the influence of the evil eye.
As for al-Hasad (envy), it is established through conclusive evidence. Allah (swt) says: “Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could turn you back to infidelity after you have believed, from selfish envy.” [2-109]

Answers to Questions
1- What is preponderant is that 'Omar Ibnul Khattab (ra) embraced Islam during the period of the secret Da’awah, i.e. the Culturing Period, and not during the overt Da’awah, i.e. the Interaction Period. In other words, he embraced Islam around the third year. The report claiming that he embraced Islam in the sixth year is far-fetched.

The Ramadan Message
[Ramadan is the month in which the Qur’an was sent down, as a guide to mankind, also clear Signs for guidance and judgement (between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present during that month should spend it in fasting [TMQ 2.185].
During the blessed month of Ramadan the Muslims increase their recitation and implementation of the Qur’an, for it is during this sublime month that the glorious Qur’an was revealed. The Quran divided everything clearly between right and wrong, between Haq (truth) and Batil (falsehood) and between Kufr (disbelief) and Iman. It is filled with verses about the ongoing struggle between these two sides since the time of Adam (as) and until the departure of the noble Messenger (saw).

The Necessity of Political Thought in the Life of the Muslims
The Islamic Ummah has for centuries up until today suffered from inadequate political thought. This inadequacy has brought a great deal of calamities and tribulations upon her, especially after the collapse of the Khilafah at the hands of the British and the French in 1924; thus it was easy for her enemies to deceive her and distort the facts for her. One of the historical facts is that inadequate political thought destroys or weakens peoples and nations, and it prevents the oppressed peoples from ridding themselves of the shackles of Kufr and colonialism. What is manifest before your eyes today, oh Muslims, is but a vivid example of this. The PLO, for which you have sacrificed your lives and your wealth in order to make it succeed in representing you, in the hope that it will bring you liberation, is the one that squandered Palestine and humiliated her residents. Then you pinned your hopes on Saddam Hussein to regain some of your dignity, but he brought a humiliating defeat upon his people and his Ummah and placed Iraq and the whole of the Gulf under American custody.

Answer to a Question
Question:
Is the definition of Iman a Shari'ah definition or a rational one? Could the communist, the actual Christian and the Hindu be described as Mu’mineen (believers) in what they embrace in terms of doctrines or in terms of what they follow as religions and schools of thoughts despite the non conformity of their doctrines to reality?
